Steve, I took the CFP class and exam for the same reason you did. I wanted to have a plan B. I actually did a post about ways to get the work experience here. http://marionvermazen.blogs.com/marions_blog/2005/06/cfp_practical_e.html

Since then I had a phone call from the guy who runs the UC Davis Extension CFP program and they also have an offering that counts for work experience. I submitted my time at Intuit for part of my practical experience and it was accepted.

I have now passed the window of time allowed for getting the required experience to become a CFP (Certified Financial Planner). I am however planning to call the CFP Board to see if they would give me an extension to allow me to count my H&R Block experience.
Perhaps if they would I will see if I can get an internship with a planner here in Reno to finish the experience requirement.

I would be interested in your thoughts and experiences.

Marion,
Hi - I am interested in your experiences with the CFP. I am taking the exam in March but will need to meet the work experience requirement. I view this as possibly a moonlighting career and something I can do if I lose my job or retire early.

Can you help me out with some comments?

Thanks
Steve Jaffe
